A Dream
(morning of 8/22/98)
I was in a small crowd of people sitting around. The setting was rather peaceful.
Eric Clapton was in the group. The song he wrote about his son, from "Unplugged"
was playing.
I had the guitar. I was trying to play along.
I was hearing the music right but I couldn't find the right chords to play. He was
watching me patiently in a fatherly sort of way as I tried to find the right chords.
He was saying, "that's almost it, you almost got it".
Finally, he came over to me. I was looking at a picture, sort of a bird's eye view of
a river
meandering along a landscape roughly horizontally. The river was the guitar string "A",
the one you press
to play the "C" of a C chord. He came up and pressed one finger on the river. I said,
"that's all?"
I played the chord, and it sounded exactly right. Cool! Then I immediately figured out
the next hand position, and then the next. I was moving the finger down the river
for each bass note (C...B...A...G...etc.) I was playing along with the song.
I was
happy.
